SKILLED NURSING
Skilled nurse visits are intermittent nursing services ordered by a physician for a recipient whose illness, injury, physical, or mental condition creates a need for the service. Services under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) are provided in the recipient’s residence by an RN or a licensed practical nurse (LPN), and provided under a plan of care or service plan that specifies a level of care that the nurse is qualified to provide.
COVERED SERVICES
SNVs include any of the following tasks:

- Completion of a procedure requiring substantial and specialized nursing skill (e.g., administering intravenous therapy, intra-muscular injections and sterile procedures)
- Consumer teaching and education/training that requires a nurse’s skills
- Observation, assessment and evaluation of a person’s physical and/or mental status
SNVs include any of the following tasks:

- Based on an assessed need
- Delivered as described and documented in the person’s care or service plan
- Made in accordance with the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act
- Medically necessary
- Ordered by a physician.
